Siouxland Catholic Radio 88.1 FM launched a new locally-produced show, Father Knows Best, with diocesan priest, Father Mark Stoll. The first episode aired Jan. 7 at 9 p.m.
Mater Dei Parish of Sioux City is offering a men's retreat - Here I Am, Lord: Men of Mission on Jan. 17 at Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City. the event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $20 per person.
As in past years, youth and young adults from the Diocese of Sioux City attended the SEEK 2026 conference Jan. 1 to 5 as part of 26,000 participants in Columbus, Ohio, Denver and Fort Worth. Carroll St. John Paul II Parish sent 13 parishioners, four chaperones - including Father Patrick Behm, pastor, to the Columbus SEEK event. Sioux City Mater Dei Parish and several donors sponsored the expenses of the SEEK experience for 16 students.
The diocesan group of seven seminarians at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, Minnesota, started their spring semester on Jan. 5 and shared a photo of their first day back. Pray for our seminarians and pray for vocations.
The Jefferson area Catholic Daughters of America (CDA) Court #390 sponsored the annual Christmas party for the residents of Imagine the Possibilities group homes on Dec. 16 at the parish center in Jefferson. The CDA provided refreshments, led singing of Christmas carols, and played bingo.
During Poverty Awareness Month, the faithful are encouraged to join the Secretariat of Justice and Peace, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic community in the United States in taking up Pope Leo's challenge to live in solidarity with the poor.
The St. Serra Club of Siouxland hosted most of the diocesan seminarians for a breakfast and Mass at St. Joseph Church in Sioux City. Father Travis Crotty, director of vocations, and Father Shane Deman, director of seminarians and Bishop John Keehner were also present. The club supports vocations in the Diocese of Sioux City.
The Moville Immaculate Conception Church, Sts. Isidore and Maria Parish sixth grade Faith Formation class, led by Mike and Molly Brauer, made 'Blessing Bags' for people in need.
These bags were all decorated by their class and they filled them with basic necessities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, lip balm and other items.
The Bauers then took them to downtown Sioux City and hung them for anyone in need to take and use right before Christmas.
The Storm Lake area Knights of Columbus partnered with St. Mary Parish in Storm Lake to support Hope for Life (formerly Cornerstone for Life), the Storm Lake area pregnancy support center for women and families in need. The drive was part of Respect Life Month.
A special collection is taken up annually at the Masses in the four Sioux City parishes to help purchase groceries and household items for the Carmelite Nuns of Sioux City. The dates for the 2026 collection are the Jan. 17 and 18, 2026.
The Storm Lake Knights of Columbus recently voted to donate $1,000 to the Siouxland Soup Kitchen in Sioux City. The Siouxland Soup Kitchen is a non-profit that is dedicated to providing free meals to anyone in need in a dignified and respectful manner.
The funds donated were acquired through the Cans for a Cause initiative, where the Knights collect redeemable cans and bottles locally and distribute the redemption proceeds to organizations in need.
New toys, food items and clothing were donated in Onawa at Bomgaars, Dollar General, Lewis Pharmacy, Sunshine Foods, St. John Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Nearly all of the boxes were filled to overflowing with gifts when the final pickup was made on Dec. 15.

The Iowa Great Lakes Knights of Columbus Council 5043 was presented this week with the prestigious Star Council 2024-2025 award.
Knights of Columbus members received the award from District Deputy Jim Miller at its monthly meeting Dec. 1. Of the 17,000 Councils worldwide, fewer than 3,000 local councils receive the award each year. The Star Council award recognizes outstanding achievement in membership, insurance and programming.
Fourteen altar servers at Sioux City Mater Dei Parish were promoted to the next rank in the parish Knights of the Altar program. The promotions were held on Christ the King Sunday.
With the increase in families using the local UDMO food pantry, the Iowa Great Lakes Knights of Columbus Council 5043 saw a need in the community and made a quick decision at its monthly meeting to donate to Upper Des Moines Opportunity. Knights of Columbus Officers presented a check Nov. 11 to Jason Petersen, representing Upper Des Moines Opportunity.
The Iowa Great Lakes Knights of Columbus Council 5043 held its annual Soup and Dessert Supper Sunday, Nov. 2. Over 400 attended the event which raised funds for community initiatives.
