Siouxland Catholic Radio 88.1 FM is preparing for two significant events next week. The 2026 Juried Youth Art Festival with the theme "Thankfulness for God’s Gifts” will be held at St. Boniface Parish Hall in Sioux City from March 17 to 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will occur during the same time as the Spring Pledge Drive at the KFHC studios, 701 W. 5th Street in Sioux City. These events are free and open to the public.
Bishop Emeritus Walker Nickless will be the guest speaker for the April 12 Divine Mercy Sunday event held at St. Michael Church in Sioux City. There will also be a novena each night at the shrine of Queen of Peace Trinity Heights, leading up to April 12.
CHAMPION, WISCONSIN – More than 10,000 pilgrims are expected for “America’s Mini-Camino,” the 13th Annual Walk to Mary on May 2, a 22-mile pilgrimage that begins at National Shrine of St. Joseph at Old St. Joseph Church on the campus of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, and ends at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion – the first and only approved Marian apparition site in the U.S.
St. Ambrose University is hosting the upcoming international conference, From A(mbrose) to (Gen.) Z: Resourcing the Tradition in Response to Contemporary Concerns in the Church. The conference will be held April 24–26, 2026, at St. Ambrose University’s campus in Davenport, Iowa. Registration is available on the conference website.
The Onawa-Blencoe Knights of Columbus Council 6249 are conducting a food drive during Lent. Started in 2024, this is the third consecutive year for the project.
All donations can be made at St. John Catholic Church in Onawa or at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. The donations help replenish the food pantries at West Central and St. Joseph, respectively.
Religious Education students from Sacred Heart Church in Ida Grove, St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, packaged 6,384 meals in a Then Feed Just One packaging event last week. Meals will be sent to children in Haiti, Honduras and Africa.
St. Andrew Catholic Daughters hosted "Donuts with Daughters" on Feb. 15 following Mass at St. Andrew Church in Sibley.
Parishioners were invited to enjoy donuts, coffee and juice while also viewing the Education Contest entries submitted by the parish religious education students.
Two programs offered at St. Mary Parish in Humboldt. March 11 features Father Jake Rosenmeyer and March 18 features Sister Marie Hesed, SOLT. Program runs from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the church. All are welcome.
Area girls and boys ages 9 to 14 participated in the 2026 Knights of Columbus District Free Throw Championship Feb. 15, and nine earned the right to compete at the Regional level. Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 in Spirit Lake sponsored the District competition at the Bedell Family YMCA, drawing kids from Spirit Lake, Spencer and Okoboji.
A mini reunion was held at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City when six classmates from Heelan High School’s class of 1950 recently united for a celebration.
The class of 1950 was the Catholic school’s first graduating class.
According to Deb Poss, director of development and marketing at the retirement home, the gathering was a true legacy and testament to continued friendships and a love for their school, God, family and each other.
Dennis Kurth was honored for his 40 years of service to the community and his church on Feb. 2. He received an honorary plaque and hearty congratulations from his brother Knights at the monthly meeting of the Knights of Columbus Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 at St. Mary Parish in Spirit Lake.
On Feb. 1, 10 boys and 13 girls from Storm Lake showed off their free throw shooting skills. The youngsters ages 9 to 13, gathered for the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Nine were named local champions of the 2026 and have earned the right to compete at the district level. St Mary’s Council 2326 in Storm Lake sponsored the local competition at the Storm Lake St. Mary School gymnasium. All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Sioux City will host a grand opening, blessing and ribbon cutting for Angeline’s Wing for Children and Families on Feb. 23 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at 1601 Military Road in Sioux City. The program and ribbon cutting will begin at 4 p.m.
Women from St. Andrew Church in Sibley, St. Mary in Ashton and St. Patrick in Sheldon gathered at the Winter Women's Party hosted by St. Andrew CDA in Sibley on Jan. 24. The committee served an egg bake, coffee cake, fruit parfait, juice and coffee. Fun games were played and many prizes were awarded. Organizers said it fine time for fellowship for all on a very cold day.
Mater Dei Catholic Parish in Sioux City is offering the Life Giving Wounds retreat for adult children of divorce or separation. The retreat is March 6 to 8 and is open to the public.

The Knights of Columbus Council 5660 at Mater Dei Parish in Sioux City distributed $500 checks to five organizations that serve clients with intellectual disabilities in Sioux City.
The Knights of Columbus Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 oversaw the exemplification for three members. The ceremony was held Jan. 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.
Honored with the third degree by District Deputy Jim Miller, with State Chaplain Rev. Dan Guenther presiding, were Vance Katzfey, Okoboji, Jason Dahna, Graettinger and Nicholas Poss, Ashton.
With family members in attendance, the men committed themselves to the first three degrees of the Knights of Columbus: charity, unity and fraternity.
The St. Andrew Church Guild in Sibley presented an Achievement Award scholarship to Macy Polen following Mass Jan. 11. She is attending Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
