Briar Cliff University in Sioux City is offering Catholic Connection Scholarships for Catholic students - a 60% discount in order to make a Catholic higher education experience possible for more students.

The fourth-degree Knights of Columbus hosted a silver rose ceremony on June 15, at Trinity Heights. More than 50 people are attended the prayer service to reaffirm their dedication to the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. Knight Dennis Kluver hosted the event and Father Randy Schon provided the consecration and blessing that coordinate with the traveling silver rose. The prayer service and rosary was moved indoors, as a thundercloud approached.

Novena will begin June 19 — the anniversary of Pope Leo XIV’s anniversary to the priesthood — and end June 27, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart.

The Most Reverend John E. Keehner, Bishop of Sioux City, hereby announces the following appointment, effective July 8, 2025: Reverend Jacob R. Rosenmeyer, is appointed as parochial vicar at Holy Trinity Parish in Fort Dodge and St. Mary Parish in Humboldt, with residence in Fort Dodge. In addition, he is assigned as chaplain of St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge.

With a few new twists added to the annual Office of Vocations summer Quest trip for young men, the four-day trip strengthened relationships and faith within the participants. The group of 44 including young men from throughout the diocese departed June 2 from Storm Lake headed for Winona, Minnesota and La Crosse, Wisconsin. Participants were from both public and Catholic high schools and colleges.

“Relying on the help of the Lord God and of our savior Jesus Christ, we choose this, our brother for the Order of the Priesthood,” Bishop John E. Keehner declared at the June 7 priestly ordination Mass of Father Jacob Rosenmeyer at the Sioux City Cathedral of the Epiphany. Deacon Rosenmeyer graduated from Kenrick-Glennon Seminary outside of St. Louis, in preparation for ordination.

The annual CYO baseball and softball tournaments were held in Le Mars and Remsen June 7 with six diocesan high schools participating. In baseball, Remsen St. Mary was the only school to go 2-0, with wins of 12-4 over Sioux City Bishop Heelan and 11-5 over Carroll Kuemper Catholic. In the girls softball tournament, Fort Dodge St. Edmond won their bracket with shoutout wins of 4-0 over Heelan and 11-0 over Gehlen.

Seven classmates who graduated in 1984 from the now closed Spalding Catholic High School in Granville are rekindling their friendships in the midst of learning the Franciscan Way of Life. Offered by the Dubuque Franciscans, the Franciscan Way of Life is a two-year process that invites participants to a deeper understanding of the Franciscan values and charism.

The Ave Young Women’s Retreat, a spiritual trip held June 2-5, provided participants with a chance to pray together, visit religious communities and have some outdoor recreation. Organizers Megan Ulrich of Ascension Parish of Boone County and Sandra Hildreth of Our Lady of the Plains Parish of Calhoun County accompanied 18 young women on a journey visiting sites and communities in Omaha, Gretna and Lincoln in Nebraska.
