The annual CYO baseball and softball tournaments were held in Le Mars and Remsen June 7 with six diocesan high schools participating.
In baseball, Remsen St. Mary was the only school to go 2-0, with wins of 12-4 over Sioux City Bishop Heelan and 11-5 over Carroll Kuemper Catholic. Heelan, Kuemper, Algona Bishop Garrigan and Le Mars Gehlen Catholic all went 1-1 in their two games, with Fort Dodge St. Edmond going 0-2.
Collin Homan, Landon Waldschmitt and Brady Wurth of RSM led the all-tournament team, along with Tristan Jansen and Aaron McDermott of Kuemper, Dan Meis and Brady Galligan of Garrigan, Karson Fitch and Dylan Knapp of Heelan, Noah Koch of Gehen and Grant Galles of St. Edmond.
In the girls softball tournament, St. Edmond won their bracket with shoutout wins of 4-0 over Heelan and 11-0 over Gehlen.
Heelan edged Gehlen 7-6 in the other game. Remsen St. Mary won the other bracket with wins of 10-7 over Kuemper and 7-5 over Garrigan.
Bishop Garrigan topped Kuemper 9-6 in the other game. Mariah Myers, Lauren Gibb, and Taryn Helle of St. Edmond led the all-tournament team. They were joined by Hallie Bunkers and Chloe Homan of RSM, Zoe Montag and Hanna Merron of Garrigan, Erin Fitzpatrick of Heelan, Isabel Lammers of Gehlen and Charlotte Schwabe of Kuemper Catholic.
Mike Szalat of St. Edmond was also presented with the CYO coach of the year award for cross country last season.
