The diocesan Office of Vocations is offering the Quo Vadis discernment retreat for young men Aug. 1 to 3 at Camp Okoboji. Diocesan seminarians will lead the retreat under the direction of Father Travis Crotty, vocations director, and Father Shane Deman, director of seminarians.
The retreat is open to newcomers and those who have participated in the past. There is no cost to attend but participants are responsible for their own transportation to Milford. Meals, accommodations and activities are covered by the Office of Vocations.
"Our hope is that this retreat is an opportunity to have the time, space and fraternity to ask the bigger questions that often get swept away by business and distractions," Father Crotty wrote in his invitation to Quo Vadis.
Participants will have time for communal and personal prayer, eucharistic adoration and time outdoors "in the natural beauty of God's creation."
The vocations director is asking the men attending Quo Vadis to have a good examination of conscience in preparation for the sacrament of reconciliation and to "consider how Christ has been meeting you this summer."
Beds are provided by the camp but men should pack a sleeping bag, pillow, or other bedding they may prefer. The men won't be using their phones but should bring a phone charger in the case of an emergency. The men should bring casual clothing for the outdoor activities and business casual (slacks, khakis, nice jeans and a collared shirt) for Mass on Sunday with Bishop John Keehner.
Other items to consider - water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, notebook, rosary, Bible, spiritual reading book, card games, board games, football, soccer ball, fishing equipment, baseball and gloves for free time.
