Sister Jodie will live in community with her Benedictine sisters in Yankton “I missed praying with the sisters … I asked our oblate director if there were any sisters in Lincoln. She said, well there aren’t any from Atchison but there are some in Yankton, South Dakota. I said I suppose they’d be good enough,” she said with a laugh. “That’s when I introduced myself to them and eventually joined their community.”
First Communion at St. Mary with Sister Jodie and Father Mauro SánchezSister Jodie said she has been pleased to see the Hispanic children of the parish thriving in the school system both academically and in extracurricular activities such as athletics. Although the parish is now majority Spanish-speaking, the community of Rock Valley is home to mostly English-speaking Anglo residents.
Sister Jodie“We pray together, our Liturgy of the Hours, morning and evening prayer, compline ... We eat together, do dishes together, those types of things,” she said. “The one thing is I’ve pretty much set my own schedule. There, it will be a definite schedule to follow, but I know that in advance. I will have to adjust to it.”
