Briar Cliff University will host its final event in the Franciscan Values Lecture Series for the 2025-2026 academic year on Earth Day, April 22 at 7 p.m. The lecture is titled, "Reverencing Creation: Climate Change and Laudato Si'," and it will take place in Meis Recital Hall.
One of the most significant statements on Catholic environmental stewardship and the problem of climate change was given by the late Pope Francis in his 2015, Laudato Si': On Care for our Common Home. Dr. Matthew Draud, president of Briar Cliff University, will open the evening with a special recorded introduction.
Dr. Michael Horka will then explain the meaning and significance of this encyclical. We will also be joined by Allyssa Wright, North America Programs coordinator for the Laudato Si' Movement, who explains how Catholics are responding to the call to care for God's creation.
This event is free and open to the public. Visitors to Briar Cliff are also invited to visit Our Lady of Grace Chapel to complete their pilgrimage for the Jubilee Year of St. Francis before the event.
