The FIRE Foundation of Northwest Iowa awarded a MicroGrant to Pocahontas Catholic School for their faculty and staff’s participation in the Teach to Heal training program.
Teach to Heal is a comprehensive systemic approach to support mental health in schools. Teach to Heal provides specific training and consultation to General Education and Special Education teachers, Counselors, Interventionalists, School Administrators, and families to support students impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
Pocahontas Catholic School will begin Teach to Heal this August or September in conjunction with the start of the new school year.
“Without the FIRE Foundation’s support, the program would have been taken out of the general church funds," said Cindy Edge, Pocahontas Catholic School principal.
She went on to elaborate the school was uncertain how to budget for this newly identified program so late in the 2025-26 school year budgeting process.
