On May 20, five women were welcomed into the Confraternity of Christian Mothers in the Sioux City Mater Dei Parish, Unit #3639, as part of the ritual of solemn reception. Father Peter Nyugen presided.
The new members are Carol Albenesius, Mary (Sam) Hacker, Janet Kluver, Lisa Niebuhr and Theresa Vandenberg.
Janet Witt, president of the Mater Dei Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the organization was formed in 1850 in Lille, France, for the purpose of strengthening Catholic home life. Women began to pray with and for one another, and their families, to discuss their problems and to advise one another regarding the Christian rearing of their children.
Today, any Catholic woman in good standing, married or unmarried, with or without children, can be admitted, provided she seriously intends to promote the aims of the Confraternity, especially of the Christian education of children, and comply with the Confraternity’s rules.
