Lumen Media garners three journalism awards

Lumen Media, the news and communications office of the Diocese of Sioux City, took home three awards at the June 27 Catholic Media Association Conference awards ceremony held in Phoenix, Arizona. The content appeared in The Lumen and on the digital Lumen Media platforms.
 
The staff earned second place in the Best Special Supplement or Special Issue with Advertising Emphasis category for the Catholic Schools Week 2024 edition. Contributors included Dawn Prosser, director of communications, Renee Webb, design and content coordinator and Lori Berglund, contributing writer.
 
“This piece captures the community and the schools with a rich variety of voices, features and perspectives,” from the judges’ comments.
 
Webb also earned third place in Best Analysis/Background/Round-Up News Writing – The Gerard E. Sherry Award for a non-weekly for “Church teaching on gender ideology: Identity is a Gift from God.”
 
“This coverage is an interesting and well-written analysis. It takes a microscope to this controversial topic so that readers can see its complexity through the lens of the church,” from the judges’ comments.
Original graphic designed by Renee Webb was part of the priests' mental health series Prosser took home third place honors in Best Reporting on Priesthood, Religious Life or Diaconate – Series for “Shifting Landscape for Priests Series – Mental Health Focus.” 
“This series is refreshing as it offers a different perspective. It includes an informative and significant look at the new realities priests are facing,” from the judges’ comments.
