Sister Lenore Steilen, OSF, born in Farmer, S.D., was among 10 Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi who rejoiced with the congregation as they celebrated Jubilees on July 28, 2024. Sister Lenore marked her 80th Jubilee, having professed final vows in 1944. Jubilee is a celebration of anniversary years since profession of vows.
Sister Lenore was a teacher and principal who served parishes in Wisconsin and Iowa. From 1956-1962, she taught at St. Joseph School in Wesley. She taught and served as principal at Sacred Heart School in Early, (1964-1986); was a teacher at Lourdes Memorial School in Davenport (1986-1987); and was director of the resource center and religious education coordinator, as well as a teacher, at Assumption Grade School in Granger (1987 – 2000). She retired in 2000 but continues as a volunteer to this day. Sister Lenore celebrated her 101st birthday on July 5, 2024.
