Helen Marie Erpelding (84) passed away surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 7. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1200 S. Warrior Lane, Waukee, Iowa) at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m.
Helen Marie (O’Donnell) Erpelding, 84, passed away on Nov. 7, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was born on Feb. 10, 1941, in Bancroft, to Bernard and Rosalia (Walsh) O’Donnell. She attended St. John’s Catholic School in Bancroft and graduated with the Class of 1959.
On April 15, 1961, she married Gerald Erpelding, and together they built a home filled with devotion, humor, and unwavering care. Helen was a dedicated wife, taking meticulous and loving care of Gerald throughout their life together.
Helen was known for her remarkable talents and her generous heart. She was an extraordinary baker, a gifted seamstress and a lifelong cat lover. She had a passion for reading and a way of making every meal, celebration and quiet moment feel meaningful. She raised her family with patience, strength and warmth and was always ready with a listening ear.
She spent many years working at American Republic Insurance in Des Moines, where she served as Executive Office Manager for the head actuary. Her exceptional organization, efficiency and professionalism were admired by all who worked alongside her.
Above all, Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend—steady, thoughtful and endlessly loving.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald, and their three children, who will forever be grateful for her love.
