With the increase in families using the local UDMO food pantry, the Iowa Great Lakes Knights of Columbus Council 5043 saw a need in the community and made a quick decision at its monthly meeting to donate to Upper Des Moines Opportunity.
Knights of Columbus Officers presented a check Nov. 11 to Jason Petersen, representing Upper Des Moines Opportunity.
The Knights of Columbus at St. Mary Parish, in Council 5043, would like to thank the Lakes Area residents who support its many activities. The proceeds are used to support a variety of needs in Dickinson County, including Coats for Kid at local schools, local food banks, Special Olympics and families in need.
Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 is one of the most active in Iowa, in the past few years contributing more than $30,000 to local community needs, including Hope Haven, Iowa Helping Hands Fund, Special Olympics, American Wheelchair Mission, the Grotto of the Redemption, Cherish House as well as to local family, community and parish needs.
