Gehlen event raises $371,598 for school

The 39th Annual Friends of Gehlen Catholic Ball brought the community together for a “Friday Night Lights” themed evening of generosity, raising $371,598 to support Le Mars Gehlen Catholic School and its students.

The event was led by General Chairs Brad and Sarah Cave and Tyler and Kylie Petty, whose leadership helped bring the evening’s vision to life.

The total includes $65,000 designated for a Preschool Playground Fund-A-Cause, which will help relocate and upgrade the playground to accommodate upcoming campus improvements.

Styled after a football draft night, the event highlighted the impact of community support on the school’s mission of faith-based education. Attendees participated in a raffle, live auction, and Fund-A-Cause initiative, all contributing to the evening’s success.

The online and live auctions were a key highlight of the evening, led by Co-Chairs Jason and Lindsay Anderson and Eric and Brianne Mitchell. The live auction, managed by Brock Auction Company, featured 11 items and raised more than $54,000.

Several individuals and couples were recognized for their contributions to the school.
Teacher of the Year honors were awarded to Alissa Schipper, recognized for her leadership, dedication to students, and commitment to fostering a faith-filled environment.

The Spirit of Peter and Catherine Gehlen Award was presented to Rick and Mary Kneip and Mike and Kelli Langel. The couples were honored for their extensive service and leadership to the school over the years, including their role in the Legacy Campaign that has raised more than $10 million.

The evening also included recognition of retiring staff members Beth Schlichte and Dave Palmer for their years of service to the Gehlen Catholic community.

Development Director Amy Jungers reflected on the significance of the evening, noting, “This night is about more than fundraising, it’s about faith, community, and the shared belief in what Gehlen Catholic represents. The generosity we witnessed ensures our mission will continue to thrive for generations.”

The Friends of Gehlen Catholic Ball continues to be a key annual fundraiser, supporting academic programs, facilities, and long-term initiatives that benefit students and families.
