Pope Leo XIV has named Father Thomas J. Hennen of the Diocese of Davenport as Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Baker in Oregon. Following is the press release from the Diocese of Davenport:
It is with immense joy that we received this morning the news of Pope Leo's appointment of the Bishop-elect Thomas J. Hennen as the new Bishop of Baker, Oregon. We extend our heartfelt congratulations on this well-deserved appointment. While we rejoice for the people of the Diocese of Baker, who will undoubtedly benefit from Bishop-elect Thomas Hennen’s pastoral care and leadership, this news also comes with a touch of sadness for our own Diocese of Davenport.
He has been a most generous and dedicated shepherd in his pastoral ministry with the faithful at Sacred Heart Cathedral, and his invaluable service as Vicar General of our diocese has been a true blessing. His wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the Church have left an indelible mark on all of us. We are deeply grateful for the complete dedication of his life at the service of this local church.
As he prepares to embark on this new chapter of his priestly ministry, he carries with him the prayers and profound gratitude of the entire Diocese of Davenport. We pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and strengthen him in his new episcopal ministry, and that it may be filled with abundant grace and fruitfulness.
