As the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) kicks off July 18 with an overnight in Onawa, Catholic schools and parishes across the state are helping to welcome tens of thousands of guests making the 391.4 mile trek.
Following are some of events hosted by parishes in the Diocese of Sioux City, Diocese of Des Moines and the Archdiocese of Dubuque for riders who want to patronize Catholic entities on their ride:
JULY 18 - DAY 0
Onawa (overnight stop)- 4 to 8 p.m. - The Rosary Altar Society and parish volunteers will host a meal at the St. John Parish Center at 1009 13th Street. Menu includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, chips, homemade bars or homemade pie.
- 6 p.m. - St. John Parish will offer a special Mass. The church is at 1009 13th Street in Onawa.
JULY 19 – DAY 1
Onawa- 9 a.m. - Mass at St. John Parish. The church is at 1009 13th Street in Onawa.
- 10:30 a.m. - Mass offered at St. Patrick Church in Dunlap at 312 S. Third Street. The parish will also offer homemade fruit pies on the downtown route at the Dunlap Food Pantry.
- Earling
- 9:30 a.m. - St. Joseph Church at 212 Second Street will offer Mass and the church will be open for tours. The religious education program will have a fundraiser on the parish property next to Main Street. Their sister parish, St. Peter in Defiance will be selling pie and sandwiches.
Harlan (overnight stop)- 4-8 p.m. -St. Michael Parish in Harlan will offer a pasta and pie feed at the church at 2001 College Place. The site is air conditioned.
- 8 p.m. - Mass at St. Michael Church at 2001 College Place.
JULY 20 – DAY 2
Harlan- 5 to 9 a.m. - St. Michael Parish will have breakfast burritos for $5 at the church at 2001 College Place.
- Holy Trinity Parish including the churches in Exira and Brayton are selling homemade pies. Watch for their tent on the main square in Exira.
- 4:30 (or earlier) - Beef and noodles meal hosted by St. Cecilia in Panora, St. Mary Guthrie Center and St. Patrick Bayard at the St. Mary parish hall at 603 Main Street.
- 5 p.m. - Mass at St. Mary Church in Guthrie Center at 603 Main Street, hosted by churches in Panora, Guthrie Center and Bayard.

Perry- St. Patrick Church in Perry is open for visits, viewing of the church and private prayer at 1312 Third Street.
- 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Adoration at Sacred Heart Church (Ascension Parish) at 915 12th Street.
- 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Parishioners will welcome riders and distribute prayer cards and St. Christopher medals (for riders to pin to their shirts on the ride).
- 5:30 p.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church (Ascension Parish) at 915 12th Street.
JULY 22 – DAY 4
Boone- 6 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church (Ascension Parish) at 915 12th Street.
JULY 24 – DAY 6
Dyersville- 4-8 p.m. Spaghetti dinner served at St. Francis Xavier Elementary auditorium at 203 2nd Street, SW.
