Briar Cliff awarded $1.75 million federal grant for student support services

Briar Cliff University in Sioux City has been awarded a five-year federal Student Support Services (SSS) grant though the U.S. Department of Education, totaling an expected $1.75 million. 

The initial funding for year one is $346,845 and will allow the university to launch a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving college access, retention, and graduation for underserved students.
 
The SSS grant, part of the federal TRIO programs, will support services for 200 students annually, with a focus on first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
 
“Our mission has always centered on educating the whole person, and this grant expands our ability to walk alongside students who face additional barriers to success,” said Dr. Matthew Draud, president of Briar Cliff University. “With this support, we can deepen our impact and equip more students for academic achievement and meaningful careers.”
 
Through this funding, Briar Cliff will expand its capacity to provide personalized academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, educational and career counseling, financial literacy support, and preparation for graduate school. The program will also offer assistance to students transferring from other institutions.
 
The initiative addresses key federal priorities by supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic needs while promoting access, affordability, and post-graduation success.
