Briar Cliff announces presidential scholars

Briar Cliff University is excited to announce this year’s recipients of the Presidential Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship is the highest honor and largest scholarship available at Briar Cliff. Scholars awarded will receive compensation for the full cost of their Briar Cliff tuition for all four years (eight semesters).
 
It is awarded to incoming undergraduate students who exemplify academic excellence, outstanding contributions in their community, and extraordinary leadership in their educational careers. The incoming recipients of the Presidential Scholarship are Thomas Göetz, Morgan Johnson, and Jordyn Ratzlaff.
 
“These students represent the very best of what Briar Cliff looks for—strong academic performers, servant leaders, and individuals who are already making an impact in their communities,” said Dr. Matthew Draud, President of Briar Cliff University. “We are proud to welcome Thomas, Morgan, and Jordyn to the Briar Cliff community.”
 
Thomas Göetz, an incoming student from Austria, will join Briar Cliff University with plans to pursue Business Administration while continuing his development as a competitive golfer. A top student at GrThomas Göetzaz International Bilingual School, Göetz is fluent in English and German and has also studied French, Russian, and Latin, consistently earning the highest marks. He has participated in international exchange programs, sings in his school’s senior choir, and volunteers through charity drives and community events like annual caroling. A dedicated athlete, Göetz has competed in national and international golf tournaments and trained extensively to improve his game through biomechanical analysis and disciplined practice. His strong academic background, leadership, and passion for golf make him a promising addition to the Briar Cliff community. 


Morgan Johnson, a standout student from Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will join Briar Cliff University this fall with aspirations to pursue Nursing. Ranked in the top 20% of her class with a 3.86 GPA, Morgan has excelled in a rigorous curriculum that includes multiple AP and dual credit courses. Beyond academics, she is deeply committed to service aMorgan Johnsonnd leadership, serving as president of both the Cancer Awareness and Best Buddies clubs, mentoring younger students, and volunteering through National Honor Society, Sioux Falls Cares, and the local food bank. A multi-sport athlete in varsity basketball, cross country, and track, she also contributes to her school’s welcoming committee, Unity Inc. show choir, and Link Crew. Named 2024 Homecoming Queen and a Girls State delegate, Morgan is known for her compassion, work ethic, and dedication to making a difference on and off campus. 


Jordyn Ratzlaff, a student-athlete from Clarkson, Nebraska, and graduate of Howells-Dodge Consolidated, will join Briar Cliff University with plans to pursue Elementary Education. A Jordyn Ratzlaffmulti-sport athlete and standout in both basketball and softball, Jordyn has balanced her athletic success with academic achievement and deep community involvement. She has participated in the National Honor Society, student council, FCA, choir, and mentoring programs, all while maintaining a positive, team-first attitude admired by peers and educators alike. Known for her perseverance through personal challenges and her ability to uplift those around her, Jordyn brings a strong sense of purpose and determination to everything she does—qualities that will no doubt make her a valued member of the Briar Cliff community.
