Bishop: Connect with the National Eucharistic Congress from home

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
 
This is my first all-digital message on the Lumen Media website and through the LumeNotes e-newsletter. I’m grateful that we have such a large number of the faithful connecting with us digitally. 

I offer a heartfelt thank you to all who have supported the people in northwest Iowa that are victims of the recent devastating floods. Whether you rolled up your sleeves to help with cleanup, served a community meal, gathered supplies, contributed to our Catholic Charities flood relief collection and/or offered your prayers, I thank you for caring for our neighbors in need. 

Thousands of the nation’s Catholics are participating in the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage this summer, soon to culminate in Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress. The pilgrims are scheduled to arrive throughout the morning of July 16 with the National Eucharistic Congress running from July 17 through 21. 

Although Indianapolis is several hours’ drive from any location in the Diocese of Sioux City, there are some pilgrims from our diocese planning to participate in this historic event. Due to distance, we know that most of the diocesan faithful will not be participating on-site.
However, we can connect with the congress and connect ourselves to Christ through the Eucharist as a diocesan and national faith community. The National Eucharistic Revival offers suggestions for us to join in our love and devotion to the Eucharist virtually as individuals or as a family:

• Spend time in adoration – check with your parish for available adoration times – and focus on the true presence of Christ in the exposed Eucharist in the monstrance
• Attend a daily Mass next week and offer it for the special intention of the revival
• Stop in your parish church, even if you only have a few minutes, and in quiet prayer ask God for a renewal of the Holy Eucharist, thanking him for this great gift
• For a local pilgrimage, attend Mass at a local church you don’t normally attend
• Create your own mini-pilgrimage and walk to Mass

I encourage all of us (even the homebound like me) to pray for the success of the revival and to participate in the national celebration of the Eucharist in some way next week, wherever we may be located.

I humbly ask that you continue to remember me in your prayers as I continue to recover from ankle replacement surgery. I am doing well and am so thankful for your support and care. I am also grateful to my family members and friends who have stayed with me as I continue healing. There are several more weeks to go before I can return to a full schedule but know of my prayers for you and your needs every day. 

Enjoy these wonderful warm days of summer with the slower pace this season offers us.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

Este es mi primer mensaje totalmente digital en el sitio web de Lumen Media y a través del boletín electrónico LumeNotes. Estoy agradecido de que tengamos un número tan grande de fieles que se conectan con nosotros digitalmente. 

Ofrezco un sincero agradecimiento a todos los que han apoyado a las personas en el noroeste de Iowa que son víctimas de las recientes inundaciones devastadoras. Ya sea que se arremangaron para ayudar con la limpieza, sirvieron una comida comunitaria, reunieron suministros, contribuyeron a nuestra colecta de ayuda para las inundaciones de Caridades Católicas y/o ofrecieron sus oraciones, les agradezco por cuidar a nuestros vecinos necesitados. 

Miles de católicos de la nación están participando en la Peregrinación Eucarística Nacional este verano, que pronto culminará en Indianápolis con el Congreso Eucarístico Nacional. Está previsto que los peregrinos lleguen a lo largo de la mañana del 16 de julio, para el Congreso Eucarístico Nacional que se celebrará del 17 al 21 de julio. 

Aunque Indianápolis está a varias horas de distancian de cualquier localidad de la Diócesis de Sioux City, hay algunos peregrinos de nuestra diócesis que planean participar en este evento histórico. Debido a la distancia, sabemos que la mayoría de los fieles diocesanos no participarán en persona.

Sin embargo, podemos conectarnos con el congreso y conectarnos con Cristo a través de la Eucaristía como comunidad de fe diocesana y nacional. El Avivamiento Eucarístico Nacional ofrece algunas sugerencias para que nos unamos en nuestro amor y devoción a la Eucaristía como individuos o como familia:

1. Dedique tiempo a la adoración – consulte con su parroquia para conocer los horarios de adoración disponibles – y concéntrese en la verdadera presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía expuesta en la custodia
2. Asista a una Misa diaria la próxima semana y ofrézcala por la intención especial del avivamiento
3. Viste su iglesia parroquial, aunque solo tengas unos minutos, y en oración silenciosa pide a Dios una renovación de la Sagrada Eucaristía, y agradezca por este gran don
4. Para una peregrinación local, asista a misa en una iglesia local a la que normalmente no asiste
5. Crea su propia mini-peregrinación y camina a Misa

Animo a todos nosotros (incluso a los confinados en casa como yo) a orar por el éxito del avivamiento y a participar de alguna manera en la celebración nacional de la Eucaristía la próxima semana, dondequiera que nos encontremos.

Les pido humildemente que continúen recordándome en sus oraciones mientras continúo recuperándome de la cirugía de reemplazo de tobillo. Estoy bien y estoy muy agradecida por su apoyo y cuidado. También estoy agradecida con mis familiares y amigos que se han quedado conmigo mientras continúo sanando. Quedan varias semanas más antes de que pueda volver a un horario completo, pero sepan de mis oraciones diarias por ustedes y sus necesidades. 

Disfruten de estos maravillosos días cálidos de verano con el ritmo más lento que nos ofrece esta estación. ¡Alabado sea Dios por la belleza de la creación!
