Gehlen Catholic School is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Amanda Anderson as its new President.
Father Doug Klein, pastor of All Saints Parish and former president of Gehlen Catholic, reflected on the evolving leadership needs within the school. “The capacity of a priest to serve in a full-time administrative role has changed over the years. With only one priest now serving the Le Mars area, having a full-time president will greatly enhance the support for our school’s leadership and mission,” he said.
Anderson, a Le Mars native, brings a well-rounded background in education, having held leadership positions at Iowa State University and the University of South Dakota. Her work has focused on wellness, fitness education, and curriculum development. She also directed the Exercise Clinic at Iowa State and recently served as a substitute teacher throughout the Le Mars community, giving her valuable insight into both higher education and K–12 settings.
"I am deeply honored to return to my community and serve the next generation of leaders at Gehlen Catholic," said Dr. Anderson. "This town has had a lasting impact on me, and it is a privilege to give back to a place that values faith, education, and service."
Father Klein added, “The president plays a vital role in uniting our school with the broader community, serving as a primary spokesperson for Gehlen and helping to strengthen relationships with supporting parishes, the Diocese of Sioux City, and the people of Le Mars. I’m excited to work with Dr. Anderson—she leads with collaboration and vision, and I believe she will help Gehlen Catholic grow while staying deeply rooted in our Catholic faith.”
Dr. Anderson’s leadership is centered on creating a supportive and inclusive culture where every member of the school community feels seen and valued.
“When people feel recognized and encouraged, they are empowered to bring their best to their roles,” she said. “I want that same spirit of encouragement to be present in every classroom, so our students are confident and ready to thrive.”
As she begins her tenure, Dr. Anderson is focused on building strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and benefactors. “My first priority is to listen,” she said. “Understanding what makes Gehlen special—and where we have opportunities to grow—will help guide decisions that keep the school moving forward.”
Dr. Anderson emphasized the importance of planning strategically to support long-term success. “Growth is exciting and essential to our future, but it needs to be intentional,” she said. “We want to ensure that any expansion of our programs, facilities, or offerings enhances the student experience and reflects the values that have long defined Gehlen Catholic.”
“I’m excited to work with the school board, staff, and community partners to build on Gehlen’s momentum,” Dr. Anderson said. “Together, we’ll continue providing an excellent, student-centered education that prepares young people to succeed in life and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
